WHAT DO YOU FOLLOW, TRADITION OR RELIGION by Mide Benedict

The main reason why some hold dogmatically to their 'faith' is that some aspects of their traditional or cultural belief are synonymous to their religious doctrines. Hence, on seeing a contrary expression of this belief, they fume and blaze in utmost disgust. That's why some will strongly slap your cap from your head when entering into a church because the bible says according to
Mosaic laws that men should not cover their heads in the house of worship and some cultures also believe that a man should put off his cap when greeting an elderly person.
Since God is an elderly entity, and demands respect, your cap will fly from your head in no time if you are spotted by any of such religious persons. Polygamy is religiously legal in Islam, but some only stand strong with polygamous marriage because many Nigerian cultures accept the same, hence they embrace it sternly.
Some people even port like MTN to Etisalat from Christianity to Islam so as to enjoy the freedom of such marital bliss. But they forget that in the Quran, it's said that such a person must be financially, morally and even physically able to take care of all his wives and love them equally. Some push themselves to it because of the fun of eating several cookies and therefore put their wives to the task of reaping from a harid ground.
People accept the things that suit them and disobey the other parts. They obey because they feel it is culturally okay. No wonder some preach and heal 'shrababbababababakaba' with charmed girdle tied to their waist and wasting away the lives of their members by placing them right in the middle of a spiritual bondage.
That's why some obey vehemently the laws that benefit or seem culturally alright and discard those that seem to them on fit. Some believe in after life because they believe in ancestral home not that there is really a heaven somewhere or believe in eternal life.
Some reject the act of grace because they still believe in continous offer of self-sacrifices to appease God. Christianity is not culture based, it's Christ based, so the will of God is what is right not what 'my culture' preaches.
Okay, if there's anything like believe in culture to the Christian it is the 'Jesus culture', nothing more.

TIED TO FREEDOM by Mide Benedict

Don’t hold me down L ike I’m in some cave Just like a bird flies Where nothing breathes light Through a hidden dark sky L ike an existence lost in inexistence, Locked up in a bottle     T hat only lives every day in an every minute coffin Tightened with an unbreakable cover.    Free me I said, but you brought me this! What freedom is more painful than   Eye balls without sights; faith without work like To walk on a spot;                    Mountains tied to your legs   While eyes go dark                    As you walk unmoving: In a place surrounded by light;            What a freedom!
