ON TODAY'S WIND by Mide Benedict

Geographical Setting: Oba-Ile, Akure, Ondo State
Temporal Setting: -11th of July, 2016

What spirit dwells in this wind
Blowing with wide strength
Trees are naked-
Sands run from their folk
Cadavers of buried leaves
Have been uprooted
And now
in upward strolls
To heaven's gate-
It calms
Then it roars again
Its voice
Is harsh again
Its anger
Is great again
It packs
All the sands again
The trees
Nakedness regained
Dead leaves
Up-gathered in train....
What spirit dwells in this wind today
What strength gives you strength?

What freedom is more painful than   Eye balls without sights; faith without work like To walk on a spot;                    Mountains tied to your legs   While eyes go dark                    As you walk unmoving: In a place surrounded by light;            What a freedom!
