TWO WATERS by Mide Benedict

When two stones meet, they say, either one breaks the other, or they both break into pieces, but when two waters mix, they become one, and inseparable: so was the way it went for Akanji and Aduke.

The day was bright at that time. The light of the sun shinned through the clouds, covering large fields of grasses and making them appear very radiant in their green skins. Akanji had kept it in mind for long: his heart pierced him badly that he knew that day was the day he would regain his freedom.

Aduke, an elegant lady with vibrant smiles, enormous charms that made men melt on sighting her, sat beside Akanji as they usually did everyday.
Many men have dreamt of Aduke in the night when they snoozed in bed with snores. In fact, many wanted to have her as something; be it wife, mistress or whatever just to have a taste of her, but the more they spoke to her, the more she rejected them. This was one of the reasons why Akanji feared to mouth his feelings to her even though they were fond of each other. But that day, the drum of waiting tore on Akanji and he spoke his mind.

"Aduke, the beautiful eyes of the sun, unsetting even in the heart of the night, the one that owns the name on many tongues, who else can beat the peacock to a duel, but you, Aduke the gentle morning breeze"
Aduke released smiles on her face, lighting up fire in Akanji. She looked at him and said, "Ah, Akanji you won't kill ,e with your words?"
Akanji smiled and said, "I have something to tell you"
"Ehn ehn?" Aduke replied has she turned her face of concentration to Akanji.
When Akanji first mentioned something about his love for her, he thought he she would get angry, but it was the opposite he experienced.
Aduke, a ready-made heart, never gave it much time before giving him a reply. In two days, Aduke had smoothened her tongue and given Akanji a glamorous "YES". And that was where their love story began.

Akanji was exceptionally good with words and not just mere words ejected through the aid of the tongue, rather, it was the sweetest of words formed from a pure place built with the stones of emotions. At times when they met under the cashew tree behind Akanji's father's house, he would ask Aduke to sit calmly on his legs and as he looked into her radiant and flamboyant eyes, he would summon beautiful words that went straight into Aduke's ears.
Aduke always gave a sincere smile and looking into the eyes of her lover, she would emit three words that always reassured their love.

The story was sweet and lovely, but it was not all the time that smiles covered their faces. Sometimes, they disagreed on issues, and would refuse to speak. At every point when this slipped into their relationship, they always found a way to sort it out. They never let such moments draw out the breath of their love; they together gave it breath to survive and yes, it did survived

One thing was sure, whether Akanji was a handsome lad or Aduke was one who was drenched in the waters of beauty, it didn't raise a single dust of bewilderment from its settling point: all that was important was that they were both into each other and it was through that that their beauty became revealed.

Beauty, they say, lies in the object itself, but it also and most importantly lies in the eyes of the beholder: for Akanji and Aduke, whatever they had for each other was in all ways beautiful. Their waters never broke the vow they made: they remained till their bodies never remained.

                                                                   THE END

TIED TO FREEDOM by Mide Benedict

Don’t hold me down L ike I’m in some cave Just like a bird flies Where nothing breathes light Through a hidden dark sky L ike an existence lost in inexistence, Locked up in a bottle     T hat only lives every day in an every minute coffin Tightened with an unbreakable cover.    Free me I said, but you brought me this! What freedom is more painful than   Eye balls without sights; faith without work like To walk on a spot;                    Mountains tied to your legs   While eyes go dark                    As you walk unmoving: In a place surrounded by light;            What a freedom!
