THE REVENANT: THE BELLY AND GRAVE

Prologue:
“On my way home,
 I saw how the sun
Passed away.
On my way to my abode
After a test in my chamber of knowledge,
I grasped how the moon voyaged
To take its place (sun),
Then and there, I knew everything
In life only shows life’s way”

Darkness sat upon the heart of the earth
No feeling, no pain and no joy:
All taste of light was always void
Though no less fear or above was seen within
No less impact or below was made to earth’s sight
For no ear had heard the labour of light in the sky,
Or has any eye seen its face,
How it shone or smiled from space’s shade
Neither was its happiness known, nor sadness shown
‘It dwells in the right that, a drum never beaten
Sounds not to pleasing or dismal’

Beclouded as its experience turned.
A great mystery boogied out of the forest of nature.
“Or a sad day I should name it?
Well things have passed away,
Should you name it, name it as you may”.

When the earth was mesmerized.
It was at an hour unknown,
When the cloud suddenly started to glow.
Such no eyes had beheld in ancient,
All eyes and attention stood on their head.
Union bones left their little lights on the floor
To see what was sneaking in.
‘Is it a flame or is the sky burning!’
Exclamations burst at the highest screech.
‘Is that darkness has been blessed with a curse?’
Legs ran out to make a speech.
Blinks collided on blinks;
Hours and minutes die along the line of indecision
Yet no one knew what the unknown “what” in the sky
Had brought from whence it came.
Finally, at train’s tail it showed its face.
The earth was brightened,
The world was new: a new alien was born
And Smile fell on countless faces
While Light shone on knownless places

Happy they were, but a thought ran to them.
‘What could this be, a lord or servant,
 A damned or saint?
No clue, no idea became their priest.
So they tot up their minds
To give it a name, as the Lord had commanded
They named it, THE SUN:
When newness takes a new shape,
A new name is nailed to it.

They played, sang, danced
And all enjoyed the light of their new born prince.
Sun, as it was called,
Moved from place to place
With its light which became bigger at every step it took.
Its fame spread through the seven shapers of the world
The Europa, and the sphere’s other six parts.
Even the darkest of caves could spell its name.
It sat on darkness which once sat on the earth,
And cast it away.
Suddenly, doubts started to web their souls and minds
A glance at what once made them smile
Turned extremely sour.
It struck their hearts with fear,
That no soul’s eyes could witness a blinking sleep.
“Nothing is painful enough
As to watch ones happiness
Slip away as one glanced.”
So they offered sacrifices to things
Outside and within to save Sun’s life
Which was slipping gradually away,
Heading towards where it first came.
“Don’t go! Don’t go! Please don’t go”,
They squeaked incessantly.
“But time has her time
And when time’s time is up, it times no more”
Sun gradually walked back into its entry.
They saw it go but they became lepers
When that moment came.
They could do nothing
But to stare as the sun disappeared,
And without a thought of a greater darkness
Its leave would cause, it gave them its epitaph.
“Better is it to know no fun or see no light
Than to view the sight and later go blind”.
As its shadow bided farewell,
So did darkness’s laughter slapped them to fear.
Once again their future shook hands with their past
So they learnt a lesson,
Of which I learnt too,
“Nothing is permanent in this realm
No foot will forever stand firm ’
They begged Sun to come back;
But nothing was heard and no sign appeared
Maybe its name, the name they gave it
Had waned its existence,
For the name he answered no more.
They cried for help for they knew something
Must be up there where Sun came from;
Something must have sent the Sun to them.
Their prayers were heard,
For help came from the helper.
This made them smile, dance and thanked
Once more, since the time sun left them a coffin,
They never did much of those.
It came to them when the leaves had shut their eyes.
And covered their skin with their cloths.
They thought again, and like they did before,
They gave it a name, THE MOON;
For it made their many mourning moments move on.
They pampered it, put a diamond ring in its finger
Gave it a shoe to put on and gave a purple robe to wear.
For these generosity, it gave them its words,
‘With you, I will stay till the world exists no more’
So it said.
“But they forgot one truth,
That life is nothing but an Abiku
Since when that fruit was plucked from
The tree He banned,
Life began to breath
And when that breath passes its base,
Life pauses and stops.
And only a new birth would bring it remedy.
The proposal of remedies to life’s mishap,
Apart from the true remedy, is a great error comedy”.
“Since time has its time set for all things,
The human weakness to promises once prevailed”,
The moon also did the same
And this was shorter than Sun’s range.
It had a stronger oath with nature than with earth.
So it smoked away with angels of moments
Setting it to flame.
They gathered its ashes
Into a little pot and set it on water
To voyage to the route it previously came.
As they wept once again in darkened plight,
Light shone for a third time:
Alas! It was the Sun,
But a moment was set to think,
‘This sun looks different from the formal,
This is hotter and brighter,’
They engaged in comess.
But no much joy or shout was made;
For they now understood nature’s hour glass.
“Life is a whip, it goes forward
And heads backwards.
Those impacts we make,
Whether the gnashing or the kissing,
Sticks to the heart of many.
Even the graves bear witness
With their epitaphs.
Time has it’s time to think and blink when it tick-tocks.
Nothing breaks time’s rules and ways;
For everything in time is time itself:
Everything in life is life’s first born.”

TIED TO FREEDOM by Mide Benedict

Don’t hold me down L ike I’m in some cave Just like a bird flies Where nothing breathes light Through a hidden dark sky L ike an existence lost in inexistence, Locked up in a bottle     T hat only lives every day in an every minute coffin Tightened with an unbreakable cover.    Free me I said, but you brought me this! What freedom is more painful than   Eye balls without sights; faith without work like To walk on a spot;                    Mountains tied to your legs   While eyes go dark                    As you walk unmoving: In a place surrounded by light;            What a freedom!
