THE SILENT ONES by MIDE BENEDICT

They wore no cloth
Though wrapped in gold and
Riches multiplied
By X(s) times X
All these glow stones
Gave them no covering.

They wore no cloth
Except what they had
Before they became
Empty and
Naked
In
Empty
Nakedness.

Eru, fear came, but it scared them not
Not that they were not to be scared
But that fear, the one you have
Right now,
The one they
Had right before
They had no cloth
Was not the same fear they had
That fear, 'kudun'! disappeared
Right when they needed it most:
May be they would have thought again
Before the night came at noon
And took them to a place-
Timeless in silence;
Active in... 'shusssh'
Silent.

The fear they have is for the known.

Listen, do you hear the dogs bark?
Yes, 'woufff'! they know too that those clotheless ones
Are there... 'aauuuuhhhhh'!
Loudly
In your bed,
'wouuuffff'!
On the roof
'woouuuuufffff'!
Everywhere, scattered
All around like suspended echoes
Scattered all in there
Like dusts of darkness
Scattered all in air
Like clouds, moving with no noise
As every thing passed through them
They are the silent ones
The cold ones in the air
They are the clotheless ones
The ones with mouths
Dipped deep in silence.

Shuuuusshh!
We all have a night
It seems it will never come
But it will and when it does
We will all be cold-
Clotheless-
Deeds will be what will form our voices,
Our fears and our tears....

'shuuuusshh'
silent.
'aaahuuuuuh'
'woufffffffffff'!

TWO WATERS by Mide Benedict

When two stones meet, they say, either one breaks the other, or they both break into pieces, but when two waters mix, they become one, and inseparable: so was the way it went for Akanji and Aduke. The day was bright at that time. The light of the sun shinned through the clouds, covering large fields of grasses and making them appear very radiant in their green skins. Akanji had kept it in mind for long: his heart pierced him badly that he knew that day was the day he would regain his freedom. Aduke, an elegant lady with vibrant smiles, enormous charms that made men melt on sighting her, sat beside Akanji as they usually did everyday. Many men have dreamt of Aduke in the night when they snoozed in bed with snores. In fact, many wanted to have her as something; be it wife, mistress or whatever just to have a taste of her, but the more they spoke to her, the more she ...

Mute by Mide Benedict

That Friday, everyone was spitless, yet it felt as if we spoke all at once in fading tones. Adiza, Halimat's sister wore it differently, her eyes, blood red, her tongue, twisted. Mine was twisted too. Halimat laid right there, silent and unmoving; each gaze at her drove tears out of my eyes.
