TIED TO FREEDOM by Mide Benedict

Don’t hold me down L ike I’m in some cave Just like a bird flies Where nothing breathes light Through a hidden dark sky L ike an existence lost in inexistence, Locked up in a bottle     T hat only lives every day in an every minute coffin Tightened with an unbreakable cover.    Free me I said, but you brought me this! What freedom is more painful than   Eye balls without sights; faith without work like To walk on a spot;                    Mountains tied to your legs   While eyes go dark                    As you walk unmoving: In a place surrounded by light;            What a freedom! Picture Poetry: THE BOY WHO REVEALED HIS SOUL

Here I am, in the water that cools, That soothes my body, Opening my mind And diluting my soul. Here I am, a boy who reveals his soul, About the hardship of my being Left on the shape of my torn soles Painted with dark colours on the rough canvas of my life: And here i am, again, revealing my soul. For who will I tell, except you, about mama Who was said to have killed papa By the ones he held close to heart, All for the love of money Flowing to a mirageous eternity? Who will I tell that his body wasn't buried in his home And that his only son is now a sheep in the street Left with the memories of his departed bloods? Who will I tell about last night That a boy of a morning age Was struck in the night By a man of a night ape Who made him gush blood from his anus!? I feel the pain right there beneath I feel it too deeply in my breath And also in my darkened heart, tearing my being. Ah, who will I tell of this "harbour in a mean nation”? Who will ...

ASK THE BOYS by Mide Benedict

Ask the boys Whose hands were covered With the mud of their mother's grave, Ask them if they really knew What laid within the soil below their feet. Tell the boys Whose toy kits were the bones Of their closest mates Ask them if they knew The femur their father once owned Is now the fervour for the dog to crack: Tell the boys who were Snatched from the hands of dreams And handed over to imbalance When the single song of sorrow Tore their eardrums off peace.... Ask them if they still have dreams I doubt they will say no, They do have dreams they may never find. Mide Benedict War is nothing but the inactions of peace Peace and war are nothing but the actions of us

HOW STAYING INDOORS MAY CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Mide Benedict

You know people make it look as if your world is in shreds when you stay indoors; they may not care about what you do when you're within the confine of your home, they may not care what you need it for, whether that's the only thing that makes you sane, they may not know what in there, behind that your most precious door you adore, all they know is; your life sucks, and they say it even when they don't. Suddenly you begin to feel the heat of their words around your head like a piece of feather kept close to fire to be pampered by the odour of its own shrinking skin, you begin to drown in that assumption that whether they are right, whether your life is a pale of dung left in a room, locked up to smell to itself, you then one time decided to leave the house, you know, to feel what other people felt and hear what other people heard that makes then sing aloud and say, hosanna to their highness, then you discover, you don't flow along with their ideology, that their wo...

PICTURE POETRY: BLIND CYCLE

Artist: Anonymous Poem by Mide Benedict Red eyes does not mean pain, Does not mean sorrow That comes from another's hand. It may be that you denied sleep Of its night food and now your eyes are red. But when the eyes are red And cheeks are swollen Like water tubes about to bust open Then one of your ribs, broken Your once sexy lips, open And your bum sits outside of your house On the tiled floor Hoping that a voice would call out your name And tell you to come in and feed his pleasure Then that is the pain you didn't cause But rather chose to remain in till death do you part. Wait, do you know... I don't think so That in this your love affair, Death died a long time ago And has been buried in an unmarked place So the death you seek in your vow to do you part Is a knownless life that has no breath in its lungs. Break the chain! “But I choose to remain, you can let...” ‘No, just break the chain!' All your life, you've had that dream T...

MY THOUGHTS ON GENDER EQUALITY By Mide Benedict

I believe the word equality should be a word that synchronizes our thoughts on living, on character correction and human rightness. It should not be an ideology left or embraced by one person, a few or perhaps many; rather it should an ideological stance that captures and envelopes the mind of every human being.  It should be a word being used as a compulsory synonym to freedom because if we say we fight for freedom or we have won freedom for humanity, while leaving the female gender behind, then our struggle, blood and act are false and cannot be in anyway accepted as freedom. It's like rescuing a cow but leaving its horns behind; it's most evident the cow with not survive the blink of time.  I strongly believe that if education is you to be offered, then it should be for all, speech, it should be for all, and also employment should be based on capacity and the ability of the human being being tested for the employment opportunity, wheter or not they are su...
